The history of alt.tv.twin-peaks
part one

Written by me and posted to attp

Actually, the newsgroup alt.tv.twin-peaks began as a manually
distributed newsletter type thing back in... ohhh... about 1947.
With the advent of the Roswell incident, and other unexplained
phenomenon, Project Bluebook ( http://www.fbi.gov/foipa/bluebook.htm )
set up this newsletter to help better explain the situation to it's top
scientific minds, and asked for responses and discussion to help further
their research.
With the eventual disbanning of Bluebook, the newsgroup (which was at
the time a newly coined phrase, since a *group* of people would get
together to read the *news*letter) had a short hiatus, but soon found
itself revived in Germany. There, followers of Friedrich Nietszche's
teachings, used the forum as a method of advancing theories about life
in general, and waiting from what they referred to as their 'ubercoop',
or one who is quirky but will lead us through the trials of evil and
onto a greater good. However the newsgroup then lost some of it's
foundation when the nihilists realized they were being entertained.
With the dawn of the 60's and 70's, alt.tv.twin-peaks had a short-lived
stint as a protest paper against the vietnam war at various universities
around North America. The primary philosophy of the newsgroup at the
time was one of love and pacifism, best represented by the statements of
a criminal science student, one A. Rose, who said,"You listen to me.
While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I am a
nay-sayer and
hatchet man in the fight against violence. I pride myself in taking a
punch and I'll gladly take another, because I choose to live my life in
the company of Gandhi and King. My concerns are global. I reject
absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of
such a method...is love. I love you, President Nixon."
However, this too fizzled out... with empty bongs and nothing else to
protest, the students abandoned this medium as well.
Soon after, a young student by the name of Willy H. Gates, discovered an
archive of alt.tv.twin-peaks postings, and actually plagiarized some of
the ideas about making a new version of BASIC. He eventually developed a
disk operating system which he used to establish a new company, but
without giving any credit at all to his sources, alt.tv.twin-peaks soon
again disappeared. As to what happened to Willy H. Gates, i don't really
know.
Near the end of the 1980's, a fairly well-established director announced
his plans to create and televise a new television series, ironically
enough to be entitled 'Twin Peaks'. As to where he got the idea for the
name and the general idea of the series, I'm not sure... but i'm
suspicious that it had something to do with an old newsletter that was
handed around from person to person for over 50 years.
