Part 1: PLACES: TWIN PEAKS, WHITE LODGE, BLACK LODGE and TIBET

1.1 Where are the Black and White Lodges?

1.1a. The lodges reside both in a physical, and a metaphysical form. Consider the lodge as a different world, a dimension juxtaposed to our own, that may 'cross-over' in various places and times.

It's physical in the way that you may only enter during a specific time, and being in a specific place (Glastonbury grove, in the ring of 12 sycamores, for example). In a physical aspect, the lodges may reside in the mountains that surround Twin Peaks

It's metaphysical in the way that it requires a certain 'state of mind' to enter...not only do you have to be in the grove at said time and place, but you must be one of the 'gifted', and possibly under some circumstances, recite the chant (MIKE's poem).

Cooper was able to reach the red room in a dream-like state on various occasions:

Coop: Where are you from?

Giant: the question is...where have you gone?

Entrance into the Lodges does not appear to be an easy task... emotion is involved as well, fear is the key to the BL, while love is the key to the WL. Before entering the Lodge, one is faced with a series of challenges, or tests. Failing to pass these tests will apparently result in the annihilation of your soul. Surpassing these obstacles should grant one entrance into the desired lodge.

The Location of the Lodges in relation to Twin Peaks
(where GG=Glastonbury Grove)

1.2 Was the palazzo [palace] in the vision, which Maj. Briggs described to Bobby, the White Lodge? Will Maj. Briggs' vision of Bobby come true?

1.2a. Possibly, I think the vision may be influenced by the maj's white lodge mentality. Maj Briggs does know of the White Lodge (see question 3.9), and it's characteristics, so it's possible that his dreams reflect it...much like the way Cooper's dreams appeared. Will it come true? Depends. I think it did have an effect on Bobby, and he did seem to mature as the series progressed, but only time will tell.

1.3 When Cooper asked the OAM where Bob was, was the OAM describing the Black Lodge (i.e. "... many rooms all alike but occupied by different souls night after night")?

1.3a. If the OAM's response had a dual meaning, then yes. I believe his response had a short-term meaning, which is that Leland was currently in the great northern... and a long-term meaning, that BOB normally resides in the BL.

1.4 Is there a connection between Tibet and the White and Black Lodges?

1.4a. Perhaps Tibet contains another 'nexus' similar to the one in Twin Peaks (the grove). Both areas are primarily wooded and surrounded by mountains. Another similarity may be that while Twin Peaks is in an odd way 'isolated' from the rest of the world, and seems to be rooted in American Indian Mythology, Tibet may also have similar areas that are both isolated and mythological.

The premise of the mythology behind Twin Peaks seems to be deeply rooted in Tibetan Mythology, from the Lodges to it's minions, there seems to be parallels in almost every supernatural aspect.

1.5 Cooper tells Albert "You'd be amazed at the connection between [Twin Peaks and Tibet]". What did he mean?

1.5a. see previous question

1.6 What is it about Twin Peaks that things like a high-school prostitution ring can exist? Is it just the normal underbelly of rural America, or is there some evil that permeates the whole town, a la "It" or "The Tommyknockers"?

1.6a. Probably the latter. In the series, a few different people at various times have made reference to 'the evil in these woods'. Not to say that the lodges affect everyone all the time, but we have seen how it can influence key people to influence an entire community.

1.7 What, exactly, is the charter of the Bookhouse Boys (something about protecting Twin Peaks from the evil in the woods...)? What event precipitated its formation; when, and by whom?

1.7a. The Bookhouse Boys are a group of men (possibly women too) who take it upon themselves to fight crime when the law may not be able to do as much as it would like. In doing so, they may bend the rules to accomplish what they wish, the end justifying the means.

Truman says (ep#1003)the bookhouse boys were formed 20 years ago, but I believe that to be in error, or in the way that the specific name 'bookhouse boys' began 20yrs ago. I believe the group and the idea behind it to be much older than that. When exactly it was formed and by whom I don't know.

1.8 Where is Pearl Lakes in relation to Twin Peaks, and how does it tie in to the mystery?

1.8a. According to Catherine's story, (which although fake, was believable) Pearl Lake is a night's walk from the mill. How does it tie in to the mystery? It probably doesn't.

Part 2: PROSE, DREAMS and IMAGES

2.1. What does the petroglyph mean? Who drew them in the Owl Cave?

2.1a. The petroglyph is a map; a guide of sorts to reach the lodges. Not entirely clear, and hidden in owl cave behind a layer of rock to keep those 'evil' ones wishing to reach the BL from doing so. With this in mind, I assume it was put there by the ancients, on the side of 'good', to assist those wishing to reach the enlightenment of the White Lodge.

2.2. What do the "drawings" on the box mean? Where did Eckhardt get it? Why did he have it given to Catherine?

2.2a. The drawings were of different phases of the moon, and different greek symbols for constellations. The 'code' that opened the box didn't really mean anything (I don't think). If anything happened to Eckhardt, it was basically an elaborate trap to lure the 'guilty' ones to the safety deposit box in the bank where the bomb was.

2.3. What do the tattoos on the Log Lady and Maj. Briggs mean (could it be a bird, a plane, no ... its ...)? What happened to Maj. Briggs and the Log Lady when they disappeared? Were they abducted by aliens? Why don't they have any memory of what happened to them? Is there anybody else in TP who may have had similar circumstances?

2.3a. This may be on a limb, but they may have been called to the White Lodge. I believe them both to be 'gifted' and on the side of good, thereby being 'blessed'. In order to reach the White Lodge, I believe they were possessed, in a similar sense that Leland was possessed by BOB. Therefore they could reach the lodge, but retain no memory of how to get there or why they went. To the extent of their visit or the reason(s) behind it, I don't know.
The Major's tattoo itself is three triangles:
   /\        /\
 /     \   /    \

        /\
      /    \
    /____\
Margaret's tattoo:
   /\            /\
 /    \/\    /\/    \
/_____\ /_____\
Major's tattoo: perhaps signifying: a) the metaphysical aspect of twin peaks (the triangles on the top being the mountains with this other dimension beneath it)
b)the three aspects of our world (each triangle representing our earth, the WL, and the BL respectively)
c)the characteristics of the Lodges (the bottom triangle representing the red room, which leads to both the BL, and the WL)
d)or it s a sign from the WL reminding us keep our world clean by recycling ;)
Margaret's tattoo: probably represents the two mountains surrounding Twin Peaks, in which the lodges theoretically reside
The two tattoos combined, (though not to altruistically), show the initial; petroglyph on the wall of Owl Cave. So it may also serve to be a sign on the marked to show them where to go to find the true petroglyph, and in turn, the WL.
The tattoos combined:

2.4. Who sent the messages (i.e., "The Owls Are Not What They Seem") picked up by the Air Force monitors and shown by Maj. Briggs to Cooper?

2.4a. I think that the USAF monitors picked up the Giant's message to Cooper (ep#2001). Each of the giant's messages to Coop had two meanings... one to prove to cooper that what he was saying was true, and another meaning to help him on his quest. This message meant a)that he would find an ally in Maj. Briggs, and b)that the minions of the Lodges can take many forms, and the form of an owl is common

2.5. What information (claimed to be confidential) has been gathered under the Blue Book Project? What does Twin Peaks have to do with Project Blue Book?

2.5b. First, I'll explain what Project Bluebook was (It was a real investigation, this wasn't just something Lynch & co just dreamed up). I've found two good explanations of what it was, slightly conflicting, so I'll list both:
1) From 1947 to 1969, the Air Force investigated Unidentified Flying Objects under the code name of Project Blue Book. The project was headed by Hector Quintanilla. Headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, the project was terminated Dec. 17, 1969. Of a total of 12,618 sightings reported to Project Blue Book only 701 remained "unidentified". With the termination of Project Blue Book, the Air Force regulation establishing and controlling the program for investigation and analyzing UFOs was rescinded. Documentation regarding the former Blue Book investigation was permanently transferred to the Modern Military Branch, National Archives and Records Service, Eighth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. 20408, and is available for public review an analysis.
Public queries should be addressed to the Project Blue Book archivist at (202) 501-5400. <Martin Rautjärvi, martin.rautjä[email protected]>
2)This was the last publicly acknowledged USAF investigation into UFOs, and something of a controversial one, which started in March 1952. Its aims were to find explanations for UFO sightings, to assess whether they were a threat to national security, and to determine if the UFOs used advanced technology from which the US could learn. Reports were collected, analyzed and filed according to their results. No-one noticed anything was wrong with the project until one of the people on the investigation team sent in his own sighting. It was filed, but when he wanted to refer back to his report, it had disappeared. He then alleged that any reports that were both unexplained and could cause public uproar were siphoned off out of Blue Book to somewhere else higher up in authority, a claim that ufologists now see as fact. Blue Book was wound up in 1969 as a result of the CONDON REPORT and one of its investigators, Dr J. Allen Hynek, went on to form the first scientific based UFO group, the Center for UFO Studies, in 1973. <http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/andypage/BLUEBOOK.htm>
The relevance of Project Bluebook to Twin Peaks? At some point in the Bluebook research, they changed their focus of attention from deep space to the woods surrounding Twin Peaks. I believe the information that project Bluebook gathered was information on the Lodges, but could only be properly interpreted by those who are 'gifted'. There were two such people on the Bluebook project, Maj Briggs and Windom Earle. Maj Briggs was inexorably drawn to the WL, while Windom Earle was drawn to the BL.

2.6. What does Coop's dream mean? What does his most recent "vision" mean (the one just after Josie dies)?

2.6 Cooper's dream means a helluva lot, but I'll go over the basics.

MIKE reciting his poem, and telling the story of him and BOB-- introducing themselves to Coop (like I said, these are the basics)
the red room: each message the LMFAP gives to cooper, like the giant's messages, each have dual meanings
"Let's rock"-- It Begins (what exactly? basically everything)
Laura puts her finger to her nose-- "you know the truth coop" as in charades (just a guess)
"That gum you like is going to come back in style"-- when they all meet in the roadhouse (ep#2009) it's a sign to coop that he has completed the 'circle' and everyone has arrived
"Doesn't she look...like Laura Palmer"-- acknowledging/introducing the idea of dopplegangers... exact, but opposite doubles of people who reside in the Lodges
"sometimes my arms bend back"-- telling how she was tied the night that she died, and (on a limb here) foretelling how she ultimately ended up, in an angel-like state (arms bending back like the wings of a bird)
"she's filled with secrets"-- Laura's life and how complex she was
"where we're from the birds sings a pretty song"-- Waldo the mynah bird can give some clues, and perhaps a vague description of the WL (see Windom's descrip of the WL in ep#2019)
"and there's always music in the air"-- description of Jacques Renault's cabin (the record was skipping), and perhaps another vague reference to the WL.
the LMFAP dances-- reference to Leland palmer's compulsive dancing
As to the vision after Josie dies, I think BOB was just there to gloat over their (coop's and HST's) loss of a loved one. I believe the LMFAP was dancing to show his presence. This supports the idea that Josie was encased in wood to protect her.

2.7. Why did Cooper dream about Tibet?

2.7a. Cooper was blessed with certain gifts, giving him knowledge and awareness of the Lodges, drawn to Twin Peaks by this 'gift', he may have dreamt of Tibet because it is another 'nexus' like TP (see question 1.4)

2.8. What does the LMFAP signify? (Cooper wasn't entirely on the mark when he drew the easy parallel between Leland and LMFAP.)

2.8a. The LMFAP is a minion of the WL. He doesn't appear to be an 'inhabiting spirit' of the kind that we're aware of, but seems to be exclusively residing in the red room (as it appears to cooper anyway). He originated from MIKE... when MIKE saw the face of God, he cut off the arm with the tattoo...the arm that he killed with in a form of repentance. The arm became the LMFAP. He acts as a guide to cooper, both in coop's visions and when cooper enters the Lodge(s) in the final episode.

2.9. After the Giant vanishes for the second time, a bright bit of SFX flashes into Cooper's body. What about it?

2.9a Not sure. Perhaps it represents coop's newfound knowledge.

2.10. What is the full meaning of MIKE's poem?

2.10a Another long one, but for a start I'll state the lines:
from MIKE's recital (ep#1002 and elsewhere)
Through the darkness of future past
the magician longs to see
one chants out between two worlds
fire, walk with me

(from ep#2006)
he is BOB...
eager for fun
he wears a smile...
everybody run

(from ep #1002 & #2009)
I'll catch you in my deathbag
you may think I've gone insane
but I promise...
I will kill again

The first stanza is common to a few different characters, but generally has one purpose;
it's apparently one of the keys to entering the black lodge, or when allowing a BL minion to enter you.
when BOB first appears to Leland as a child, he states an infantile version of the key line"fire, walk with me" in asking young Leland if he "wants to play with fire".
The night Laura died, Leland was trying to 'recruit' Laura to be a host to either BOB or another BL spirit. Leland/BOB had written the phrase "fire, walk with me" in blood on a cloth, presumably with the purpose of forcing Laura to recite the words, and thus be possessed, but Laura resisted and let herself die.
The second stanza is one that MIKE recites when being questioned by cooper and others. It basically describes BOB as a badass and that he enjoys his job ;)
The third stanza is said by BOB, and generally states to cooper that BOB is not easily defeated or deterred.

2.11. Is there any meaning behind Harriet's poem (I saw Laura glowing...)?

2.11a. Probably not.

Part 3: OWLS, SPIRITS, WOOD, STRANGE and MYSTERIOUS CHARACTERS

3.1. What are the owls?

3.1a. The owls are an earthly form of spirits of the Lodges. Although commonly believed to be from the BL, I believe that they can be of either lodge. Generally the owls are observers... they observe what goes on and may inform the superiors of their respective Lodges (it is shown that there is a hierarchy to the lodges, but I'll get into that later)

3.2. Who is BOB? Who is MIKE? Where are they now?

3.2.a. BOB is a spirit of the Black Lodges. MIKE is formally of the BL, but is now associated with the WL.

BOB has taken numerous forms in the series, but most commonly as an inhabiting spirit, possessing Leland Palmer. He has also appeared as an owl, in his own form appearing in coop's dream, and in his own form near coop both when Josie dies and in the last scene of the final episode.
BOB and MIKE were serial killers, who found the power of the Black Lodge, and killed and recruited others in the name of the BL, thus gaining more power as they continued murdering innocent people. They lived above a convenience store (this may either be literal, or taken figuratively, MIKE may be saying how easy it was to kill/recruit innocents)
Then one day MIKE saw the face of God (I don't even want to touch that one), and was reformed. He cut off his his left arm, the one with the tattoo, the one that he killed with. The arm apparently became the LMFAP. BOB, however, did not wish to change, and continued on his merry way. MIKE hunted down BOB and shot him, in doing so, collapsed himself... why? I have no idea.
So now, MIKE isn't very happy with BOB, and has a singular purpose, to destroy BOB. No longer with the BL, and unable to enter the WL because of his past association with the BL, he appears to be limited in his abilities.
BOB is still a busy little fellow, working for the BL, and gaining power for his greedy little self.
Where are they now? I believe that BOB is now cavorting and killing with Cooper's doppleganger,
murdering and recruiting for the BL. MIKE is still chasing them, but now has two little bastards to round up ;)

3.3. What does BOB have to do with what happened in Pittsburgh? Why did Cooper have an affair with WE's wife?

3.3a BOB didn't have anything to do with what happened in Pittsburgh, he simply knows what happened (he basically heard about it through the BL grapevine ;) )
here's what I think happened in Pittsburgh (almost all of it is referenced, but i'm not even going to attempt referencing it all):
approx 1965,the FBI 'loaned' Windom Earle to Project Bluebook, where he learns of the Black Lodge, and begins his search for it. Possibly, during this period, he was possessed by a minion of the black lodge, and the spirit leaving him is the reason why he went insane and was subsequently committed to an asylum. This idea is supported by the fact that Earle tested positive for haloperidol (see question#3.14)prior to his commitment.
Anyway, returning to the FBI from project bluebook when it was officially disbanded in 1969, Earle remains a model FBI special Agent.
In 1982, Earle meets Agent Dale Cooper, and they begin playing chess every day for three years. Cooper never wins. Perhaps subconsciously, they are drawn toward this battle between black and white... Cooper born gifted drawn toward the way of the white lodge, and Windom drawn to the Black Lodge.
In 1985, Cooper and Earle were assigned to protect a material witness in a federal case. The witness was Earle's wife Caroline. Caroline and Cooper fell in love, and one night, Cooper let his guard down and an infuriated Earle rushed in and stabbed him in the midsection with a knife. Cooper passed out. When he awoke, he found Caroline dead in his arms, she was also stabbed (One inch below the sternum, in an upward fashion, thus severing the aorta). Earle is Institutionalized until he escapes in 1989, at which point he resumes his quest to enter the BL, not to mention terrorizing Coop along the way.

3.4. Who is the Giant? Is SDC (Senor Drool Cup) an inhabiting spirit or a spirit inhabited person?

3.4a Sr. Droolcup is Host to another inhabiting spirit, the Giant.

3.5. Who is MIKE? Where is Philip Gerard now?

3.5a. See question 3.2

3.6. Why do BOB and the Giant not resemble their hosts, but MIKE is only ever seen in Philip Gerard?

3.6a I think that the spirits basically have their choice of form. We've seen the spirits appear in a variety of different forms, from owls to human form, to that of their host. I think the Giant and BOB appear most commonly as their hosts, but at times choose to appear in their original forms; their appearance when they 'lived' on earth. I think MIKE, in losing his connection to the lodges, lost the ability to change his form and thus can only appear as Philip Gerard.

3.7. Cooper asks the Giant, "Where do you come from?" and the Giant responds, "The question is, where have you gone?" Does this imply that Cooper himself is transported elsewhere during his visions (as opposed to his visions coming to him).

3.7a see question 1.1

3.8. What happened to Josie? What did BOB have to do with her death? How do you account for her weight? Is her spirit in the "knob" just like the spirit of the Log Lady's husband is in her log?

3.8a To begin with, BOB had nothing to do with her death...he was simply there to 'gloat'. Without a human host, BOB is limited to short appearances outside of the BL.

Josie and the LL's husband are encased in wood. During the forest fire, the LL's husband was killed, and his spirit was trapped in the wood of the log. I think Margaret's husband stumbled upon the Black Lodge, and was prevented from delving further into it by the WL. He discovered the 'oil' from the circle of trees in Glastonbury Grove the night before his death. In the final episode Margaret tells cooper of this, and says her husband referred to the oil as 'a gateway to another world'. I do have a theory as to the purpose of being encased in such a situation. Wood is an element of the WL (see q 3.10), and as such, his soul may have been trapped in wood for the purpose of protecting him from the BL.
I do think however, that it's possible that what I just said is totally wrong. It's another possibility that the Log Lady's husband simply died, and she *believes* it to be in the log. Although Margaret is one of the 'gifted' (see question 3.9), we have observed that not everyone is able to handle the knowledge and responsibility that accompanies serving the WL. It's possible that Margaret simply wishes her husband to be in the log, and as such, he is.
As to Josie, I'm not sure. I believe it was a similar situation to Margaret's husband. Perhaps because of all the trouble that Josie caused (*NO ONE* shoots coop...it's just not done) the BL was moving in to take her, but the WL acting with compassion, encased her soul in the wooden bedside knob.

3.9. What's special about Cooper, Briggs, and Margaret, vis a vis their ability to commune with the supernatural?

3.9a They are known as the 'gifted', more specifically, the 'blessed'. The gifted are those that are aware of the lodges and the motives behind them. The blessed are those gifted who are drawn towards the White Lodge, as opposed to the 'damned' who are drawn to the Black Lodge. Everyone else, who are neither gifted, nor damned, are referred to as 'innocents'.
However, not all those who are known as gifted are able to deal with this ability/knowledge. Harold Smith knew of the BL and feared for his life, only feeling safe in his wooden house, he was mortally afraid to leave. Margaret is gifted, and we know that she doesn't seem to be all-in-all 'normal'. I think Annie Blackburn is gifted, and is the reason she tried to kill herself. Perhaps the cause of Johnny Horne's mental incapability is due to realization as a child of the BL.
Both Cooper and Briggs are gifted, but being of high moral character, seem to be able to deal with and even utilize their knowledge.

3.10. What is the significance of wood?

3.10a Wood is one of the elements associated with the White Lodge. Water is another.
Both Fire and Wind appear to be two elements associated with the Black Lodge.
The elements will have opposing effects on a spirit from the opposing Lodge. For example, BL minions are next to powerless when faced with wood:
-- Harold was forced to seek refuge in his house made of wood
-- When Laura was threatened by BOB, she would only feel safe nestled under the base of a giant redwood tree
-- Margaret invited Coop et al into her cabin, where the 'owls couldn't see them'
-- BOB was shown in the Great Northern (also made of wood), but didn't seem to do anything
So in my opinion, wood is method of protecting one's self from the forces of the BL

3.11. What is the significance of the "Ghostwood" project? What "possessed" (ha-ha) Ben to call it Ghostwood?

3.11a We've seen that spirits can be encased in wood.... other than that I don't know

3.12. Where is Laura (her spirit) now?

3.12a Ok, I have two prevailing points of view.... the optimistic and the pessimistic....
The pessimistic: Laura is now a wandering soul, as described by Hawk in ep#1003. A restless soul wandering our earth to no end.
The optimistic view: In the final episode, Cooper enters the Lodges. In confronting his doppleganger, he allowed his evil double to leave the lodge and enter our world, in order to free Laura's soul. Consider it an odd sort of trade. I believe this to be the more likely, due to the scene in FWWM where it shows Cooper standing next to Laura in the red room. Laura sees an angel and is happy.

3.13. What is the nature of Lana's power over men? Is she a witch?

3.13a As Dr. Jacoby explained in ep#2014, Lana simply has "a heightened sexual drive". My theory as to why all the men simply obsess over her, is that this sexual drive causes her to emanate an abnormally strong attractive pheromone (subconscious smell).

3.14. What is the effect of Haloperidol? Why does it inhibit spirits from inhabiting a person?

3.14a Haloperidol (name brand: Haldol) is a central nervous system relaxant, used to treat schizophrenia, psychotic behaviour, tourette's syndrome, and other psychological abnormalities. It's primary purpose is to regulate brain signals and activity. It's most commonly distributed as a tablet or liquid form.
It's important to note that MIKE's serum was only *partly* haloperidol, but that it was probably the most active element. A mixture of haloperidol and clozapine is commonly used in prison systems to help control psychotic behaviour.
Just a note... by now, MIKE has probably replaced his haloperidol solution with one based on risperidone. It's been proven to be more effective than haloperidol, with fewer side effects.
Windom Earle tested positive for haloperidol just prior to his commitment
Major Briggs was injected with haloperidol by WE to make him talk of the secrets of the Lodges ( I'm not sure if this would be an accurate effect of haloperidol, but it is possible I guess)

3.15. Who and what else in TP is inhabited by which spirit? Is there a spirit hiding in the sprinkler system at the Sheriff's station?

3.15a People we know to be possessed:
Leland Palmer (formerly) - possessed by BOB
Philip Gerard - possessed by MIKE
Sr Droolcup - possessed by the Giant
In theory:
Donna and Maddy - I believe they were possessed by Laura temporarily when they wore Laura's glasses
Maj Briggs - I believe that during his disappearance(s) he is/was possessed by white lodge spirits.
Margaret - probably the same as Maj Briggs
Windom Earle - I think he was temporarily possessed by a BL spirit just prior to his commitment and possibly when he killed Caroline and stabbed Coop. Then, when the spirit left him, he then became obsessed with seeking the BL
Ben Horne - possibly was possessed by a BL spirit, then the whole reenacting the civil was thing was symbolic of his struggle against it, until he defeated it and is now reformed
Ronette Pulaski - I think she was temporarily possessed and placed the letter under her own fingernail
Inanimate objects (such as the sprinkler, the stoplight, etc) - probably not
Trees - I think so, we've seen proof in Josie and the LL's husband
Ok, so it may seem like I'm copping out and saying 'that person was bad or weird 'cause he/she was possessed...
But everyone else not mentioned above I'm sure were NOT possessed. This includes:
Dale Cooper - yes, even after the final episode he wasn't possessed
Sarah Palmer - she's just really messed
Harry Truman - he was just acting weird after Josie's death because of grief, not possession
Lana Milford - no, see question 3.13

3.16. Why is Nadine super humanly strong?

3.16a Nadine tried to kill herself with a combination of different drugs, the resulting overdose put her in a coma. The drugs, which stayed in her system for quite a while, had an effect on her adrenal cortex, causing an overproduction of adrenaline in her system. Her body continued to produce an abnormal levels of adrenaline, thus giving her what appeared to be 'super-human' strength.

3.17. Are the owls manifestations of spirits or are they inhabited by spirits?

3.17a The form of an owl is one of the many forms that Lodge spirits are able to take in this world.

3.18. Why did Ms. Jones try to kill HST? What was that liquid that she applied to Harry's lips?

3.18a Coopers theory is 'sexual jealousy'. Eckhardt was in love with Josie, and was jealous of HST's involvement with Josie, and as such, one of Eckhardt's last commands to Jones was to kill HST. What she applied to HST's lips, and her own, was probably an aphrodisiac of some sort.

3.19. Who and what are the Tremonds? How did the kid magician make the creamed corn disappear?

3.19a I assume the Tremonds to be spirits of the WL.
How'd the kid make the creamed corn disappear? He's a magician dammit! ;)
from L.H Sassaman, "The Tremonds are further explored in FWWM. "Fell a victim" is the magician's command to BOB, an order or encouragement to kill. And Creamed corn is important, but I don't know why. Rewatch the scene where Mike
talks to Leland in the car with Laura. I'd like someone to explain that to me.."

3.20. Who and what is Harold Smith? Why is he agoraphobic? Why did he commit suicide? How did he know of the French sentence uttered by the kid magician?

3.20a Harold Smith is one of the gifted, but somewhere in between gifted and damned. He knows of the BL and it's minions, and he knows that he is relatively safe inside of wooden house, but I don't think he knows the *entire* story.
So he is mortally afraid of leaving his house because he (perhaps subconsciously) fears the spirits of the BL.
As to the french phrase, "Je un'homme solitaire" <<I am a lonely soul>>, I believe it to be a message given to Donna... so that after Harold killed himself, to return and visit the *real* Ms. Tremond and receive the page of Laura's diary.

3.21. What was the white/grey horse in Sarah's vision?

3.21a Often disputed but never truly confirmed, this has a few explanations.
1) Symbolic of her being drugged by Leland/BOB (horse being a slang term for heroine)
2) Perhaps a spirit of the WL, a foreboding indication of tragedy
3) In the Bible, death rode upon a pale horse, thus, the horse represents an upcoming death
"From the fourth seal came a pale horse, and its rider's name was Death, and Hades was close behind." The first horseman rides a white horse. This is a "pale" horse, sometimes translated as green. (Rev. 6.7-8)
4) She was just hepped up on goofballs ;)

3.22. What is the deal with Ben Horne and Donna's mother?

3.22a Just another subplot plot twist. Apparently Ben is Donna's biological father.

3.23. Why did Donna want Laura's sunglasses? What explains the change in her personality between 1007 and 2001?

3.23a I believe Donna was temporarily possessed by Laura Palmer's spirit (as was Maddy for a short time).

3.24. What is Benjamin's role in the evil that permeates Twin Peaks?

3.24a Perhaps Ben was possessed by a BL spirit, this is supported by Ben almost *continually* being associated with fire:
- he almost always was smoking a cigar
- an earlier scene (I can't remember which one) the sound of fire crackling was dubbed onto the audio track
- he engineered the mill fire
- he and Josie toast "to fire"
- he was just an all around not-nice guy
If this is true, I believe the whole civil war reenactment was representing his internal struggle against this spirit.
After he 'wins' the civil war, he becomes totally reformed and a real swell guy. ;)
If that theory isn't true, than he probably was just psychologically dealing with the stress of his failing business(es).

3.25. How did Andrew Packard survive his "accident" and fool people into thinking that he is dead? Who else is thought to be dead but is actually alive?

3.25a I don't really know what the accident was, all we are told is that it was supposedly a 'boating' accident (Hank to Josie ep#1007).
As to how he survived, I don't believe his statement that Josie warned him, I think that was just to get Josie in deeper with Eckhardt. Apparently the only ones to know that Andrew was not killed were Andrew himself and Catherine. Therefore I assume that Catherine somehow learned of the planned incident and informed her brother. He then played along and laid in wait for an opportune time for his resurrection.

3.26. Who is the father of Lucy's baby? What is the deal with Little Nikie?

3.26a I'd like to think it's Andy, but there's no sure answer.

3.27. Do the Renaults have another brother?

3.27a I believe it was just the three,(from oldest to youngest) Jean, Jacques and Bernard.

3.28. Was there something supernatural about the shadowed figure in the woods with Leo, and if so, did Leo know about it?

3.28a I believe this was Jacques Renault, and yes Leo did know about it.

3.29. The hooded figure from 2019: related to the figure in the woods with Leo?
How about the figure that appeared when Briggs vanished?

3.29a I believe this recurring figure was a minion of either the BL or the WL.
If it was a BL spirit, it is referred to as a 'dugpa'. An evil sorcerer type of spirit who's influence on the situation is unknown. The idea is based on the 'red caps' of Tibet.
The Dugpas: The dugpas were mentioned in "The Devil's Guard (aka Ramsden)" Briefly, there was a sect of Tibetan buddhism called Dugpas that were black magicians. Sexual excesses and murder were two characteristics of their practice. Their chief opponents were the sect headed by the Dalai Lama (the 'yellow caps'). <Dave Platt>
"An unscrupulous but skilled Adept of the Black Brotherhood ("Brothers of the Shadow," and Dugpas, we call them) has far less difficulties to labor under. For, having no laws of the Spiritual kind to trammel his actions, such a Dugpa 'sorcerer' will most unceremoniously obtain control over any mind, and subject it entirely to his evil powers. But our Masters will never do that. They have no right, except by falling into Black Magic, to obtain full mastery over anyone's immortal Ego, and can therefore act only on the physical and psychic nature of the subject, leaving thereby the free will of the latter wholly undisturbed. Hence, unless a person has been brought into psychic relationship with the Masters, and is assisted by virtue of his full faith in, and devotion to, his Teachers, the latter, whenever transmitting their thoughts to one with whom these conditions are not fulfilled, experience great difficulties in penetrating into the cloudy chaos of that person's sphere. But this is no place to treat of a subject of this nature. Suffice it to say, that if the power exists, then there are Intelligences (embodied or disembodied) which guide this power, and living conscious
instruments through whom it is transmitted and by whom it is received. We have only to beware of black magic."

If it was a WL spirit, referred to as 'bonpas' or 'gelugpas'(aka 'geluk-pas'). Maj Briggs referred to the hooded figure as a 'guardian' when he was describing his abduction scene to Earle. They are based on the 'yellow caps' of Tibet, a sect headed by the Dalai Lama and generally thought of as being on the side of 'good'.

3.30. What happened forty years ago? Is there a link between "forty years ago" and the music that Leland/BOB danced to?

3.30a I think that 40 years ago Leland allowed BOB to enter him. The music that Leland dance to does seem to be from that era, so it could be Leland subconsciously associating himself to that time.

3.31. What is the deal with James?

3.31a Just a gimp. Plain and simple. Other than that... someone had to be the James Dean clone and it wasn't going to be Leo 'new shoes' Johnson ;)

Part 4: WKLP STILL UNSOLVED MYSTERIES

4.1. Why did BOB start appearing to Laura? Was he always (ever?) in Leland during those visits?

4.1a To attempt to bring her over into the ways of the BL

4.2. Why did BOB kill Laura?

4.2a I don't think he intended to, but when she refused to cooperate, he became infuriated and killed her.

4.3. Why did BOB kill Theresa Banks?

4.3a Why not? For kicks... for BOB's feeding.... whatever.

4.4. Beside the fact that it just happened to precede her death, what did the events at Jacques' cabin have to do with BOB killing Laura? (Cooper's dream led the way to the cabin; it had to have more significance.)

4.4a I think it was just coincidence. That was what she had planned for that night (as she said in her diary), and after she left, BOB took her and Ronette to the train car.

4.5. How did Ronette's IV turn blue? How and why did she wind up with a fingernail letter?

4.5a I believe that Ronette was temporarily possessed by a BL minion, and put the letter under her own fingernail. MIKE soon came along and put haloperidol in her IV, thus freeing her of the BL spirit possessing her.

4.6. Why was BOB spelling ROBERT (in an apparently random order)?

4.6a Actually it was in reverse order, the missing letters are probably under the fingernails of victims that have not been found yet.

4.7. Laura's clinical cause of death was blood loss. She survived the Waldo attack to meet BOB at the train car. Did something besides his pounding kill her?

4.7a Her will to die.

4.8. Laura had come to some sort of decision before she died. What had she resolved? To confront BOB? To sacrifice herself? Whatever she decided, did she succeed or fail?

4.8a Laura had decided to both to confront BOB, and decided upon an apparent solution to the conflict. She decided that the only way she could escape BOB was to die.

4.9. What is the connection between Laura and Cooper? She dreamed about him; does this mean the connection is stronger somehow than simply, "he's the investigator of her murder"?

4.9a Both Laura and Cooper were of the 'gifted', and presumably, both 'blessed' (see q3.9). Perhaps Laura was reaching out to one who could help her.

4.10. What ritual occurred in the train car?

4.10a BOB was attempting to bring Laura over to the Black Lodge. In order for this to happen, she would have to allow a BL minion to enter her when reciting the chant (fire, walk with me).

4.11. Ronette recalls Laura's murder in the train car. She sees BOB in the recollection, not Leland. Why, and how?

4.11a Perhaps Ronette is one of the gifted, and as such, was able to see BOB. Due to the intensity of the situation, BOB was presumably more prevalent that Leland, thus appearing more.

4.12. What did Maddie smell just before she was murdered?

4.12a Scorched oil.... in other words, the presence of BOB

4.13. Who attacked Dr. Jacoby by the gazebo (Leland, right?) and why (jollies? I don't think so...)?

4.13a Leland Palmer attacked Dr. Jacoby. He followed Maddy from the house, and was probably protective over his newfound Laura.

Since there was already a rather comprehensive FAQ available, I didn't really have much else to do, so I decided to try to
answer all (or at least most) of the questions compiled and posed in this document (from way back in '91!!).

"I spent a lot of time reviewing my tapes in order to compile the various pieces of the MYSTERY only to find out that
BOB Glickstein beat me to it :( just as I was about to post it. Both lists had some common material although there were
some items on my list which I didn't find on Bob's list and vice versa. Thus, I decided to *integrate* and *organize*
both lists.
