- subtle murder clues are given out
- character giving the clues speaks in a distorted voice (Lisa is imitating the "Dancing Dwarf")
- an unexplained shadow flies across the curtain
- the dreamer wakes up with a hair tuft sticking up
- Maggie's three pacifier sucks at the end sound like two gunshots and a thud -- just as when Cooper opens the door, gets shot twice, and falls to the floor as the screen goes black

This episode features a flashback sequence to Bart's first day of school. Homer is seated in a darkened room, shadows playing across the wall behind him, reflecting the flickers of the Twin Peaks episode he's watching on TV.
Soft jazz music plays with fingers snapping out the beat. A white horse dances with the giant while a traffic light dangles from the moonlit branch behind them.
The commentary:
"That's damn fine coffee you've got here in Twin Peaks. And damn good cherry pie."
Homer: "Brilliant! (chuckles in a savvy manner, then mutters) I have absolutely no idea what's going on..."
